Church Audio, Lighting, Video & Broadcast Integration Project

I was responsible for the full technical integration of audio, lighting, LED video wall, live broadcast, and acoustic treatment systems for a modern church facility. The project was executed from initial system design through installation, configuration, and final commissioning.

A key requirement was to design and program the entire system so that it could be reliably operated by non-technical volunteers, while still maintaining professional production standards.

Scope of Responsibility

  • System design and equipment selection

  • Installation and mechanical integration

  • AV rack build and cable management

  • Network configuration (audio & video systems)

  • DSP tuning and system optimization

  • Lighting programming

  • LED wall configuration

  • Broadcast workflow design

  • Simplified user interface design for volunteers

  • Operator training and commissioning

Audio System

The main PA system was built around RCF HDL 6-A line array modules, providing controlled coverage and consistent speech intelligibility throughout the sanctuary.

A Midas X32 Rack digital mixing console served as the system core. Configuration included:

  • FOH mix for in-room audience

  • Dedicated broadcast mix

  • Stage monitoring (In-ears)

  • Structured gain staging

  • EQ and dynamics processing

  • Scene-based workflow optimized for volunteers

Safe operating ranges and clearly structured presets were implemented to prevent accidental system misconfiguration.

LED Video Wall

A 2.9mm pixel pitch LED video wall was installed as the primary visual display.

Key aspects of the installation:

  • Precise mechanical alignment and panel calibration

  • Integration with live video switching system via SDI network

  • Signal routing and scaling configuration

  • Color and brightness calibration between main screen and stage monitor for camera compatibility

The LED wall was mounted on a horizontal rail system, allowing it to slide laterally into the wall structure. This design enables the entire display to retract, revealing additional usable space behind it when required. The solution combined structural precision, cable management planning, and service accessibility while maintaining a clean architectural appearance when closed. The wall was designed to be recessed into the architectural structure (“flush into the wall”) to create a clean, integrated appearance while maintaining service access.

Acoustic Treatment

Custom acoustic panels were designed and installed to improve room performance. This reduced reverberation time, minimized reflections, and improved clarity for both speech and music.

Lighting System

Stage and architectural lighting were implemented using fixtures from Elation Lighting, Blizzard Lighting and DasLight Control.

Responsibilities included:

  • Fixture installation and DMX addressing

  • Scene programming

  • Creation of simplified service presets

  • Front lighting optimization for live video

Lighting was programmed to allow volunteers to transition between service modes without requiring technical expertise.

Video & Live Broadcast System

The live production workflow was built around equipment from Blackmagic Design.

Configuration included:

  • Multi-camera live switching

  • Video routing and signal management

  • Integration with LED wall

  • Streaming pipeline configuration

An Orban Optimod FM 8200 was integrated for broadcast audio processing and signal optimization.

Fail-safe routing and predefined configurations ensured stable operation during live services.

Technical Competencies Demonstrated

  • Full-scale AV system integration

  • Line array deployment and tuning

  • Digital console configuration and scene management

  • LED video wall installation and calibration

  • Live production and streaming workflow design

  • AV networking

  • DMX lighting programming

  • Acoustic optimization

  • User-centered system design for non-technical operators

  • Commissioning and training
